Pet Boarding

Thank you for considering Mandarin Landing Animal Hospital for the boarding of your pet.  We treat every pet entrusted to our care the same as we treat our own pets.  In fact, our own staff board their pets in our kennels when they are out of town.

Cats are boarded in our seperate cat room where there are two sizes of kennels to choose from.  Dogs can be boarded in a small, medium, large or run, depending on the pet's weight and space availability.  Please see the weight chart below for more information.  Our boarding facilities are all air conditioned and you are welcome to stop by any time for a tour.

During your pet's stay with us, your pet will be closely monitored for it’s eating habits, voiding habits, any weight change or any other obvious physical problems.  A full examination by the doctor is not performed unless the owner requests it; however if any issue is noted by our staff, the doctor will briefly examine and determine if a more thorough exam is indicated. Please read all of the information below before making a boarding appointment for your pet.

The following are items that will need to be addressed at, or in some cases before, your pet's boarding appointment.

·         All cats must have current immunizations against Rabies, Feline Distemper, Rhinotracheitis, and Calici Virus.  All dogs must have current immunizations against Rabies, Canine Distemper, Parvo, and Bordatella.

·         All animals must have had a Fecal Examination for internal parasites within the last 6 months.

·         All dogs are required to have had heartworm blood test within the last 12 months.

·         All animals must be free of external parasites (fleas & ticks) when admitted for boarding; or must be treated upon admission.

·         A cleansing bath is mandatory for dogs and optional for cats on the day of dismissal. All major grooming is referred to professional groomers. We will be happy to provide you with a recommendation.

·         All clients are required to read and sign the boarding admitting form.

·         Animals will be admitted & discharged ONLY during regular office hours.

·         Any animal that requires emergency or immediate veterinary attention will receive it at our discretion, and at the owner's expense.

·         An emergency telephone number should be left with the clinic.

·         Animals requiring medication or treatment (such as wound treatment) will be charged appropriate fees.

·         Please inform us if you are not happy with the way your pet is cared for. Your satisfaction and you pet's well-being are our primary concern.

·         Be aware that your pet's diet may have varied while away from home unless their food was brought for them. They may have barked at other animals; or the temperature & humidity may have been slightly different from your home.  This can create problems such as sore throats, tonsillitis, or diarrhea. We seek to prevent such problems, but you must understand that these problems do develop. Owners will be charged appropriate fees for all treatment and medication needed for reasons that are not directly under our control.

·        We furnish all normal food and bedding.

*Please Note*

In some cases a pet may be deemed too aggressive to risk injury to our staff. In other cases our staff may be able to handle a pet  but only by taking special precautions.  If our routine standard of care can not be provided due to a pet's temperament, we will make every effort to contact you to discuss all options available.  However, if a pet boarding with us is deemed too aggressive to continue boarding, we will require that the owner or authorized agent pick up the pet.

WHEN PICKING YOUR PET UP FROM BOARDING, PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING ISSUES.

BE AWARE THAT YOUR PET’S DIET MAY HAVE VARIED SLIGHTLY FROM HOME.  G.I. disturbances can occur from any changes in the normal home feeding habits.

YOUR PET MAY HAVE BARKED AT OTHER ANIMALS.  Although no two pets of different owners is ever put together, just seeing another pet causes many pets to become excited and communicate with the other pet. Many cases of sore throats, tonsillitis, and bronchitis result from excessive barking.

BE AWARE THE TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY IN OUR CLINICS MAY BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM YOUR HOME.  Just as in humans, any changes in the environment can create problems beyond control.

YOUR PET COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE “INCUBATION PERIOD” OF SOME INFECTIOUS DISEASE WHEN BROUGHT TO THE CLINIC FOR BOARDING.  Signs of disease do not develop for several days after exposure to an infectious agent.  Even though you assume your pet is healthy and even though we examine him/her upon admission, it is impossible to detect many problems until your pet starts to show clinical signs. Any changes in the normal routines of your pet can result in “stress.” Any form of stress can weaken an animal’s immune system allowing some hidden disease it has been incubating to become apparent resulting in a sick pet.

YOUR PET MAY HAVE A KENNEL ODOR IF IT DID NOT HAVE A DISMISSAL BATH.  We strongly recommend all pets receive a bath on the day of dismissal to ensure your pet is clean and odor-free. Kennel sanitation is the highest priority for us, but some pets still soil their cages and step or lay in the soiled area.  It only takes a minute for  this to happen.

FLEA CONTROL.  All pets are housed in individual “suites,” that are totally cleaned & disinfected daily.  Our grounds are also regularly treated with pesticides.  Most cases of flea infestation are present at the time of admission. We do our best to detect fleas on all pets at the time of admission and require appropriate treatment when they are found.  Sometimes, however, it can be missed, especially if there are only a few fleas on an animal.  Pets can pick up fleas in the grass outside during exercise or when being brought in the clinic or at the time of departure when the pet is walked in the grass. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND ALL PETS BE ON MONTHLY FLEA CONTROL.

PETS REQUESTED TO BE HOUSED TOGETHER & ONE IS INJURED. Injuries can occur from either playing or a “family squabble.”  We will report if any such injuries do occur and take appropriate measures and or make recommendations.
